Sonny worked at The Baxter Bulletin from 1978 through 2015, where he as a reporter, columnist, city editor, editorial page editor, editorial writer, entertainment editor, and assistant cook and bottle washer. He received awards from the Arkansas Press Association and Associated Press Managing Editors for news writing, column writing and editorial writing. He has published three collections of his columns, "A View from the Hills," "Just Another Day in Paradise," and "Modern Life & Other True Stories."  All three books are signed.
