Sonny worked at The Baxter Bulletin from 1978 through 2015, where he as a reporter, columnist, city editor, editorial page editor, editorial writer, entertainment editor, and assistant cook and bottle washer. He received awards from the Arkansas Press Association and Associated Press Managing Editors for news writing, column writing and editorial writing. He enjoys photography and has donated a small collection of his photos that have been taken in the Ozarks.
