Description

Bella, the mama whale

For the whale side...
The North Atlantic right whale is one of the rarest of the world’s large mammals. Last year, there were 268 individually identified right whales in Cape Cod Bay, that’s more than half their current population of just 400. They come in winter and spring to feed on rich blooms of microscopic zooplankton.
For the beach side…It’s a long and perilous journey from their calving grounds off Florida and Georgia to Cape Cod Bay. Its always a relief to see the mothers and their calves arrive unscathed. With so few of these animals left in the world, it’s up to us to do everything we can to protect them while they are in our waters.
